FOREWORD

“Mood of Spring – Nanyang Spring Art Exhibition 2023”

YB Puan Teo Nie Ching,
Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Malaysia.

Even wild fire cannot exterminate grass – it will grow again in the next Spring. (Chinese proverb—野火烧不尽,春风吹又生)

‘Cao Tang Men Eastern Arts Society Malaysia’, which has been established for 19 years, is collaborating for the first time with the ‘China Cultural Centre in Kuala Lumpur’ to jointly host the exhibition “Mood of Spring – Nanyang Spring Art Exhibition 2023”, which is of great significance as it enhances the exploration of traditional cultural exchange between the two countries.

In this multi-cultural society, members of the Cao Tang Men Association tirelessly study and improve their skills on Chinese calligraphy, ink painting, and seal art. Their resilient spirit depicts the Chinese saying “wild fire will not be able to destroy grass roots as they are buried deeply in the ground. They will grow again in the next Spring” – as they continue to uphold eastern traditional culture.

In conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year, the Cao Tang Men Eastern Arts Society Malaysia has curated the “Mood of Spring”, creating hand-painted local New Year pictures and paintings that depict the daily lifestyle of the people in the Nanyang region. These festive decorations are filled with quotations of blessings and expectations for the new year.

New Year paintings drive away evil and welcome good luck. As such, during the Chinese New Year, every household will hang New Year pictures as decorations.

Local New Year ink-paintings are rich in the Nanyang-style and are a symbol of traditional art for the new generation.

The “Mood of Spring Online Exhibition” continues to be open for public viewing during and even after the physical exhibition, which is a major selling point.

In addition to both online and physical exhibitions, there will also be live discussions and signing events. At the same time, a special limited edition artbook “Mood of Spring” will be released, allowing collectors to own the entire collection of exhibited New Year Pictures (masterpieces).

In this multimedia era, Cao Tang Men Eastern Arts Society Malaysia has launched an online sales platform, hoping to connect with the international market and promote Malaysia’s unique Nanyang-style art to the world.

Finally, in the spirit of the coming new year, I wish everyone good health and happiness!
